NEW YEAR & SPECIALS / CELEBRATE NEW YEAR ON A 3-DAY TOUR, STARTING FROM MARRAKECH, MOROCCO
New Year Marrakech. Day 1: 30 December: Marrakech – Tizi-n-Tichka – Agdez – Zagora – M’Hamid
Meet at 8 am, travel in a 4×4 to M’Hamid via the Atlas Mountain pass Tizi-N-Tichka. Then reach the kasbahs of Tamdakhte and Ait Ben Haddou. Arrive in Ouarzazate for a delicious lunch.
Leave for Zagora and en route visit the town of Agdez; panoramic views over the Draa valley. Continue along the valley till Tanskhirt, where the track ends.
On the way to M’Hamid, we stop in Tamegroute to visit the Koranic library, the underground kasbah and an artisan pottery. Arrive at Bivouac El Mezouaria. Dinner and entertainment round the camp fire. Stay overnight in a tent.
Day 2: 31 December: M’Hamid – Chegaga
After breakfast, a 1-hour camel ride, then a 4×4 drive along the sand tracks to the dunes of Chegaga, the largest dunes in Morocco. Lunch in the shade of the palm or tamarisk trees. In the afternoon continue to Chegaga.
Arrive at Bivouac El Mezouaria to enjoy the splendid sunset and prepare for New Year’s Eve beneath the stars, in the open desert, and round a large camp fire.
A delicious traditional dinner is served including Moroccan soup, mechoui (a whole lamb stewed in a specific oven: a festive speciality), couscous, a seasonal dessert, tea, Moroccan pastries.
An evening of Nomadic folklore. Overnight stay at Bivouac Chegaga.
Day 3: 1 January: Chegaga – Lake Iriqui – Foum Zguid – Taznakht – Marrakech
The route back to Marrakech is along the sand tracks between Erg Chegaga and the dry river bed of the Draa, via the salt-flats of Lake Iriqui. Pass Foum Zguid and continue via Taznakht.
Return to Marrakech.
Throughout the day there will opportunities to take photographs along the route between Taznakht and Marrakech.
